Circuit Cycliste Sarthe – Pays de la Loire 2014: etap 5

Francuz Axel Domont (Ag2r La Mondiale) wygrał ostatni etap francuskiego wyścigu. Trójkolorowe podium dopełnili Angelo Tulik (Team Europcar) oraz Anthony Geslin (FDJ.fr).

Triumfatorem 62. edycji Circuit Cycliste Sarthe – Pays de la Loire został Litwin Ramunas Navardauskas (Garmin-Sharp). Na 13. pozycji wyścig ukończył Bartosz Huzarski (NetApp-Endura).

Ucieczkę dnia uformowali Tony Hurel (Team Europcar), Mikhail Ignatyev (Katusha) oraz Martin Kohler (BMC). Peleton pozwolił im na wypracowanie nawet 7 minut przewagi (km 75), ale w miarę zbliżania się finałowych rund, przewaga zaczęła gwałtownie spadać. Po akcji było 45 kilometrów przed kreską, a peleton gwałtowanie zmniejszył swój stan posiadania, bo z rywalizacji wycofała się spora liczba zawodników.

Finałową partię etapu stanowiło 9 rund, których główną trudnością była Cote du Tetre. Koniec harców nie oznaczał końca zabawy. Do przodu ruszył Axel Domont (Ag2r La Mondiale), z Angelo Tulikiem (Team Europcar) przyklejonym do koła. Gonił Gustav Erik Larsson (IAM Cycling), w towarzystwie Anthony’ego Geslina (FDJ.fr) oraz Stake’a Laengena (Bretagne-Seche Environment).

Grupki na ostatnich 20 kilometrach połączyły się, utrzymując pół minuty przewagi nad peletonem. 15 sekund przewagi zostało na finałowych 5 kilometrach, a swoją szansę na zjeździe wykorzystał Domont, solową akcją wieńcząc całodniowy wysiłek.
