Driedaagse De Panne-Koksijde 2018. Elia Viviani wygrywa na finiszu

Elia Viviani (Quick Step-Floors) triumfował w jednodniowej odsłonie wyścigu wokół Brugii i De Panne.

Włoski sprinter pokonał Pascala Ackermanna (Bora-Hansgrohe) i Jaspera Philipsena (Hagens Berman Axeon). 17. miejsce zajął Paweł Franczak (CCC Sprandi Polkowice).

Wyścig dotychczas znany jako krótka etapówka rozgrywana w rejonie De Panne w tym roku zmienił formułę i zorganizowany został jako impreza jednodniowa. Na 202-kilometrowej trasie w połowie dystansu wyrastały kolejno Montenberg, brukowany i stromy Kemmelberg, a następnie Rodeberg, Vidaignberg oraz Sulferberg. Ostatnie 50 kilometrów to dwie rundy wokół miejscowości De Panne, z metą usytuowaną na niewielkim podjeździe.

Po godzinie jazdy przed peletonem można było zaobserwować zgodnie jadącą szóstkę uciekinierów: Seana Bennetta (Hagens Berman Axeon), Ylbera Sefa i Davida Bouchera (Tarteletto-Isorex), Conora Dunne’a (Aqua Blue Sport), Tannera Putta (United Healthcare) i Briana van Goethema (Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij). Harcownicy bez problemu wyrobili sobie przewagę, która w najlepszym momencie wyniosła aż 9 minut.

Sielankowa przewaga nie trwała jednak zbyt długo, peleton jeszcze przed połową dystansu zaczął niwelować różnicę. Na szczycie podjazdu pod Kemmelberg uciekinierzy mieli już tylko 6 minut zapasu, a za ich plecami kontrataku próbowali Luke Durbridge (Mitchelton-Scott) oraz Nikolas Maes (Lotto Soudal). Duet jednak szybko zrezygnował i powrócił do grupy zasadniczej.

Na 45 kilometrów do mety prowadząca szóstka miała już tylko półtorej minuty przewagi, a peleton co chwilę dzielił się i łączył ponownie. Ostatnie okrążenie rozstrzygnęło nie tylko losy harcowników, ale i całego klasyku. Gdy grupa zasadnicza podążała w kierunku finiszu w coraz szybszym tempie, wykończony Tanner Putt opuścił towarzyszy ucieczki.

Z przodu mocno pracowali zawodnicy Lotto Soudal, a silnie wiejący wiatr wspomógł podzielenie się peletonu na mniejsze grupki. Na 4 kilometry do mety po ucieczce nie było już śladu, czego dopilnował zespół Bora-Hansgrohe, dyktując tempo w końcówce. Ze sprinterskiej potyczki zwycięsko wyszedł jednak zawodnik Quick Step-Floors, Elia Viviani. Włoch pokonał Pascala Ackermanna (Bora-Hansgrohe) i Jaspera Philipsena (Hagens Berman Axeon), odnosząc szóste zwycięstwo w sezonie.
