21-letni Kolumbijczyk Álvaro José Hodeg (Quick-Step Floors) wygrał po finiszu z peletonu 16. edycję flandryjskiego wyścigu jednodniowego Handzame Classic.
Drugi kreskę przeciął rówieśnik zwycięzcy Kristoffer Halvorsen (Team Sky), a podium uzupełnił Pascal Ackermann (Bora – hansgrohe).
Na 10. miejscu przyjechał Jonas Koch z CCC Sprandi Polkowice.
Wyścig przebiegający bocznymi drogami Zachodniej Flandrii liczył 199 kilometrów. Największym faktorem na trasie był potencjalnie wiatr, bo nie trzy podjazdy Sulferberg (1 km; 3,2%), Monteberg (1 km; 4,2%) i Kemmelberg (0,7 km; 7%), leżące jeden po drugim przed 90 kilometrem, ani pokonywana czterokrotnie zmarszczka Ruidenberg (0,5 km; 3,4%), po raz ostatni 10 kilometrów przed metą.
Po kilku skokach zawiązała się akcja, kilkanaście kilometrów później do ucieczki dojechał mistrz Polski Adrian Kurek (CCC Sprandi Polkowice). W skład 9-osobowej grupki wchodzili: Denis Coenen (Cibel-Cebon), David Boucher (Tarletto-Isorex), Oscar Riesebeek (Roompot Nederlandse Loterij), Peter Koning (Aqua Blue Sport), Maikel Zijlaard (Hagnes Berman Axeon), Gatis Smukulis (Delko-Marsillie Provance-KTM), Adrian Kurek, Bryan Nauleau (Direct Energie) oraz Florian Stork (Development Team Sunweb).
Przewaga uciekinierów wynosiła maksymalnie 7 minut. Peleton 30 kilometrów przed metą zbliżył się na 2 minuty, dościgając ostatniego śmiałka – Riesebeeka – na ostatnim Ruidenbergu.
Finisz należał do młodziutkiego Hodega, który ładnie wykończył rozprowadzenie kolegów i wyraźnie pokonał ubiegłorocznego triumfatora.
