Grand Prix de Wallonie 2014

Greg van Avermaet (BMC) wygrał 54. wyścig o Grand Prix de Wallonie.

Belg na finałowej wspinaczce pod cytadelę w Namur (2,2 km; 5,5%) pokonał swoich rodaków – Tony’ego Gallopina (Lotto-Belisol) i Jana Bakelantsa (Omega Pharma-Quick Step).

W ucieczce dnia na początku dnia zapisali się Francois Bidard (Ag2r La Mondiale), Guillaume Martin (FDJ.fr), Clement Koretzky (Bretagne-Seche Environment), Loic Chetout (BMC), Thomas Degand (Wanty-Groupe Gobert) i Serge Dewortelaer (Veranclassic – Doltcini). Odjazd nie miał szczęścia i uciekinierów wyłapano na 55 kilometrów przed metą. Peleton jechał bardzo szybko, a ciągłe ataki próbowały wyłonić nową czołówkę. Harcowników skasowano 22 kilometry przed kreską.

Kolejne akcja animował Frank Schleck (Trek Factory Racing), zabierając ze sobą Ivana Rovnego (Tinkoff-Saxo) i Gianlucę Brambillę (Omega Pharma-Quick Step). Dwaj bokserzy nie wytrzymali długo na kole Luksemburczyka, a na finałowe 20 kilometrów wjechał on z Gregiem van Avermaetem (BMC), Janem Bakelantsem (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) i Jelle Vanendertem (Lotto Belisol).

Czwórka zyskała pół minuty nad peletonem i rozpoczęła rajd na metę. Akcja wyglądała świetnie, jednak w końcówce rozpoczęło się oglądanie i skoki. Ciągłe zwolnienia tempa prawie kosztowały atakujących szansę na zwycięstwo, bo na kilometr przed metą przeskakiwać zaczęli kolejni zawodnicy.

Z opresji wybrnął van Avermaet, na finiszu ogrywając atakującego Tony’ego Gallopina (Lotto Belisol). Trzeci dojechał Bakelants, a czwarty Vanendert.

Polscy kolarzy nie brali udziału w tegorocznym wyścigu.
