CCC Polsat Polkowice ready for busy start of 2014 season

Polish team starting 2014 season in France and Spain, Tour de Suisse wild card possible

CCC Polsat Polkowice confirmed its full schedule for first two months of 2014 season. Team’s plans feature five stage races and eight one-day races in February and March.

Polish highest ranked team will open the season in France, taking part in GP la Marseillaise and early spring stage races such as Etoile de Bessèges, Tour Méditerranéen and Tour du Haut Var-matin. These will be followed by participation in Vuelta a Andalucia and Vuelta a Murcia in Spain.

Riders wearing orange kits participated in some of these races before but this time they count on making use of the experience and want to show their potential rather than only team logos during live television coverage. There are also some new races and new opportunities. In March Piotr Wadecki will take his riders to Belgium for the opening of cobbled classics season – Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. The team was also invited to ride Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne and Nokere Koerse.

Wadecki also confirmed that the team has applied for wild card for Tour de Suisse.

Polish outfit races with UCI ProContinental license for the second consecutive year and hopes for better results in 2014 with some significant reinforcements on board. The roster consists of 18 riders and will be again lead by Davide Rebellin. 42-year-old Italian rider extended his contract with the team for one more year and will be the strongest point of the line-up, along with former Movistar rider Branislau Samoilau and Cannondale’s Maciej Paterski. The team also counts on young Czech rider – Josef Cerny – who showed a lot of promise during Giro del Trentino, finishing 2nd in the opening stage, and taking leader’s jersey for one day after team time trial.

– I have an important role to play in the team. I’m really motivated and I hope I can come up to the expectations. We all get on really well and I believe it’s going to be a successful season for us

– Rebellin is quoted as saying during team’s presentation on Saturday.

In 2013 CCC Polsat Polkowice made its way to the world, taking part in Tour de Pologne, Vuelta a Andalucia, La Fleche Brabançonne, Giro del Trentino, Settimana Bergamasca, as well as a series of Italian one-day races – Coppa Agostoni, Coppa Bernocchi, Tre Valli Varesine, Giro dell’Emilia and Gran Premio Bruno Beghelli.
