Omloop Het Nieuwsblad 2015

27-letni Brytyjczyk Ian Stannard (Sky) został zwycięzcą 70. edycji Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, która tradycyjnie otworzyła sezon północnych klasyków.

Drugi linię mety przeciął Niki Terpstra, a na trzecim miejscu finiszował Tom Boonen (obaj Etixx-Quick Step). 67. miejsce wywalczył Adrian Kurek (CCC Sprandi Polkowice).

Kolarze jubileuszowego wyścigu na dystansie 200 kilometrów mieli przed sobą dziesięć odcinków brukowanych oraz jedenaście flandryjskich podjazdów, w większości leżących w drugiej części trasy.

Pogoda sprzyjała, a tuż po starcie z Gandawy zawiązała się ucieczka w składzie Alexis Gougeard (Ag2r), Matt Brammeier (MTN), Christophe Laborie (Bretagne), Michael Reihs (Cult Energy), Kevin Van Melsen (Wanty), Louis Verhelst (Cofidis), Sean De Bie (Lotto Soudal) i Albert Timmer (Giant-Alpecin).

W czołówce bez powodzenia próbował się zaczepić Jarosław Marycz (CCC Sprandi Polkowice), natomiast po defekcie szybko odpadł De Bie. Pierwsze wzniesienie, Leberg (62,4 km; 950 m; 4,2% – maks. 13,8%), liderująca siódemka osiągnęła z przewagą 6:40.

Peleton spokojnie zaczął dorabiać straty. Doszło do kilku kraks, w których plątali się kolarze CCC Sprandi. 60 km przed metą Polkowiczan brakowało już w zasadniczej grupie, tracącej w tym momencie nieco ponad minutę.

Na siódmym z kolei podjeździe, brukowanym Taaienbergu (141,1 km; 530 m; 6,6% – maks. 15,8%), peleton mocno naciągnął Tom Boonen (Etixx-Quick Step), a ostatni uciekinierzy – Timmer z Brammeierem, zostali wchłonięci przez spory nadal peleton, gdy do celu było jeszcze 46 kilometrów.

6 kilometrów dalej, przedostatnia wspinaczka, Leberg (159,9 km; 950 m; 4,2% – maks. 13,8%), okazała się kluczowa, wyłaniając czteroosobową czołówkę utworzoną przez: Boonena, Niki Terpstrę i Stijna Vandenbergha (wszyscy Etixx) oraz obrońcę tytułu Iana Stannarda (Sky).

W pościgu pracowali kolarze Lotto-Soudal i LottoNL. Za Molenbergiem (165,4 km; 463 m; 7% – maks. 14,2%) strata wynosiła 26 sekund.

Sep Vanmarcke (LottoNL) i Greg Van Avermaet (BMC), ze Zdenkiem Stybarem (Etixx-Quick Step) na kole, próbowali przeskoczyć do przodu. Zbliżyli się na 12 sekund, ale zadanie jednak przerosło ich siły. Różnica znów wzrosła, po ostatnim brukowanym fragmencie, Lange Munte (179,9 km; 2500 m), do 23 sekund.

Niespełna 5 km przed metą z czołówki skoczył Boonen. Wydawało się, że Tornado Tom sięgnie po swój pierwszy triumf w Omloop, ponieważ zyskał wyraźną przewagę, jednak Stannard równym tempem dojechał do Belga.

Przyspieszył wówczas Terspstra, a po chwili niespodziewanie skontrował Brytyjczyk. Zmęczony Vandenbergh odpadł pierwszy, następnie strzelił wypompowany Boonen.

Stannard razem z Terpstrą wjechali razem na ostatnią prostą. Finisz rozpoczął kolarz Etixx, ale więcej sił zachował lider Sky, który dokonał wielkiego wyczynu, ogrywając trójkę z belgijskiej ekipy.
